About Me

I live in East Ferry with my wife Wendy, our one-year-old son Pierre, and another little one on the way that we have yet to meet.

I work as the Production Manager at Acadian Seaplants in Cornwallis Park, and volunteer as a firefighter with the Digby Neck Fire Department.

We moved to the Neck to live among like-minded people, find peace and quiet, and raise sheep. The first two were a success. The third one ended with the sheep in a freezer, after they ate at Wendy’s vegetable garden...

Prior to this, I installed hydroelectric turbines in Sudan, sold chocolates in Brazil, and toiled as a Management Consultant advising economic policy, business development, and technology investment.

By training, I am an Industrial Engineer from the Grenoble Institute of Technology (France), and I hold an MBA from McGill University (right here in Canada).

All this might sound like a big deal until I spent a season aboard Mark Jeffrey’s Bay Star II, banding lobsters, baiting traps, and watching the beauty of the Digby Neck from St Mary’s Bay.

My Priorities

Talking with neighbours and fishermen, I became more familiar with our community’s big issues:

  • our economy's backbone is threatened by lobster poaching and predatory practices across the bay;
  • our healthcare continues to degrade;
  • our schools must be permanently fought for;
  • our public transportation is non-existent;
  • our neighbors can’t access healthy food;
  • our seniors are often isolated, and
  • our young leave for opportunity elsewhere.

I was once told that our sense of community used to be stronger than it is today. I wish to change this. I wish to:

  • leverage the beauty of our region to protect and develop the tourism vocation of the area, creating more economic opportunity;
  • advocate for a sustainable fishing industry where the same rules apply to all;
  • support a transportation service, private or public, that connects the route from Digby to Westport and back;
  • advocate for our community's healthcare needs;
  • maintain our schools and expand their scope to trades training, so that our youth can stay;
  • work with churches and charitable organizations to continue expanding access to food and care for the community;
  • back our existing community associations to provide grant resources and promote volunteer engagement.

We will count on our community again.

If you live in the area from Waterford to Westport, vote Peter Scherer for Municipal Councillor. Together, we can make the Digby Neck and Islands the best place to be.

District 4 represents the Digby Neck & Islands, all the way

from Waterford to Westport.

Why should you vote during the municipal elections?

The Municipality provides many programs and services, including:

  • Recreation
  • Sewer
  • Waste Collection
  • Community Grants
  • Sidewalks

Council also develops a Strategic Plan to pinpoint Key Strategic Priorities for the coming years. It’s important for our area’s needs to be represented during these discussions.

How does voting work?

Voter instruction letters will be mailed to all eligible voters at the end of September. On this letter, you will find all the information you need to vote: voting dates, polling stations, as well as a Voter Helpline if you have questions or need assistance.

Where are the polling stations?

On Saturday, October 19th, the polling stations will be open between 8am and 7pm in Freeport and Sandy Cove:

• Freeport Fire Dept. 291 Hwy 217, Freeport

• Digby Neck Fire Dept. 6635 Hwy 217, Sandy Cove

How do I vote during advance polls?

Beginning October 10th at 9am until October 19th at 7pm, you will be able to vote over the internet or phone using the information on your voter instruction letter.

If anyone has difficulty voting electronically or over the phone, the polling stations will serve as “Voting Support” stations to help you vote over the phone or electronically, at the firehalls. There will be no paper ballots.
